Bowie County Judge Sterling Lacy is seeking re-election as an independent candidate in the Texas General Election on November 4, 2014. Judge Lacy has worked tirelessly to reduce government spending without reducing services to the public. He encouraged taxpayers to support a tax rollback election which succeeded in returning $548,177 to their wallets. Judge Lacy’s efforts to instigate a forensic audit of Bowie County’s borrowing practices have been defeated for three years by Commissioners Court; as has been his efforts to move some or all of the court sessions to an evening time in order for more working people to be able to attend. For three years in a row the Judge has proposed a balanced budget. He has stopped the borrowing practices of the past which were out of compliance with Texas laws. Those unlawful practices exaggerated fund balances, misstated Bowie County’s Truth in Taxation public notices and denied our citizens’ right to petition for the rollback of property taxes. Judge Lacy has enjoyed the task of ruling on approximately one thousand probate, guardianship and mental health cases a year. The Judge looks forward to serving another four years should the voters approve.
